Memorable Manitobans: Ted “Bear” Komar (1929-1996)

Musician.

Born at Winnipeg in 1929, his musical talent was apparent at an early age when he performed on radio stations CJRC and CKY in the 1930s. He later worked as an accordionist, entertainer, composer, producer, and arranger. As an orchestral soloist and leader, he performed on CBC Radio and Television, and he established several Ted Komar Music Schools. He participated in the National Ukrainian Festival at Dauphin for 20 years and was one of the founders of Folklorama. He died at London, Ontario on 3 October 1996 and was buried in the Glen Eden Memorial Garden.
