Memorable Manitobans: Mary Kupskay Koltek (?-2009)

Pharmacist, community activist.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, she took secretarial and bookkeeping training at the Angus School of Commerce before marrying in 1943. She and her husband Bill operated Elm Park Pharmacy in St. Vital and Helmsdale Pharmacy in East Kildonan, retiring in 1986. She served on the Board of Directors of the Children’s Aid Society, the Women’s Auxiliary to the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and was President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Manitoba Pharmacists Association. Active in her church, she was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada and served as Branch President at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church and at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in St. Boniface. She was the Manitoba Diocesan President and also the Financial Secretary on the National Executive. She was made an Honorary Life member in 1974. She died at Winnipeg on 11 January 2009.
