Memorable Manitobans: Abraham Kingdon (1845-1927)Printer. Born at Ilfracombe, Devonshire, England on 28 October 1845, son of John and Ann Kingdon. After his 1872 marriage to Elizabeth Ann Crowley at London, England, he engaged in missionary work in Madasgascar for seven years. On his return to England, he went into the printing business. In poor health, and seeking a more favourable climate, he emigrated to Canada in 1879 and resided at Kenora, Ontario for seven years. He came to Winnipeg in 1903 and founded the Kingdon Printing Company. He died at his Winnipeg home on 5 October 1927 and was buried in Elmwood Cemetery.
