Born at Fentonville, Michigan on 19 February 1866, son of Richard Kellett (?-1907) and Mary Campbell, brother of Thomas Henry Kellett, his father was superintendent of the old Canada Southern Railway in 1866; after leaving the employ of this road, he came to Manitoba in 1879 and farmed on the Carberry plains.

In 1880, he travelled for eleven days with his mother and brother by ox-cart from Winnipeg to Odanah. In 1884, he entered the employment of the Canadian Pacific Railway, first as a call boy, and later as a clerk in the auditor’s office, and still later as a timekeeper. He farmed with his father from 1885 to 1888 then was an Assistant Agent at Deloraine (1888-1891), then an Agent at Methven (1891), Nesbitt (1891-1892), and Carman (1892-c1925).

On 11 November 1889, he married Lillian Antoinette “Lily” Newcomb (1871-1906, daughter of George Frederick Newcomb) at Deloraine and they subsequently had three children: Beatrice Kellett (1893-?), Gertrude Kellett (1896-?), and Richard Kellett (1898-?). He was a member of the Masons (Worshipful Master of Oakland Lodge No. 9 and a Royal Arch Mason), Carman Board of the Trade, Order of Railway Trainmen, and Carman Anglican Church (People’s Warden). In 1923, he was made an honorary life member of the Manitoba Curling Association.

He later moved to California and died at Los Angeles on 9 November 1948.
