Memorable Manitobans: Arthur David Kean (1882-1961)Film producer. Born in Emerson, Manitoba, he moved with his family to Texas and then to British Columbia. He became a champion rodeo competitor, and he gradually combined rodeo advertisement with motion picture production. He produced many films for the Canadian government during World War One. In 1924 he began filming R. G. MacBeth’s Policing the Plains, which was finally released in 1927 to mixed reviews. This lack of success ended his motion picture career, and he turned to radio work, specializing in the Old West. Few of Kean’s films have survived. More information:
