Lawyer, judge.
Born at Tel Aviv, Israel on 14 November 1940, one of two children of Shlomo Kaufman (?-1968) and Clara Zamdweiss (1911-2002), he moved to Winnipeg with his family in 1952. At 15, he attended the Chicago Jewish Academy and, after graduation, studied Talmud at the Hebrew Theological College. After a year at Roosevelt University, he returned to Winnipeg and received BSc and LLB degrees from the University of Manitoba. He was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1968.
For a time, he practiced law with Legal Aid then established the firm Kaufman Cassidy Ramsay. In 1998, he appointed a Puisne Judge on the Court of Queen's Bench where he served until retirement in 2010.
On 20 August 1964, he married Maxine Gussin and they had three daughters. He served on the Winnipeg city council (1971-1977) and was active in the Manitoba Liberal Party and national Liberal Party. He was a board member for Rossbrook House, Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, and Via Rail Canada.
He died at Winnipeg on 2 October 2025.
