Memorable Manitobans: Vincent Joseph Jensen (1916-1988)

Cleric, educator.

Born at Hamilton, Ontario on 5 April 1916, son of Francis M. Jensen and Catherina O’Meara, he began studying for the priesthood in 1932. After training at the University of Toronto, he taught English, history, and elocution at Regiopolis College at Kingston before studying theology at Immaculee Concepcion in Montreal. Ordained in 1946, he came to Winnipeg two years later to join the teaching staff of St. Paul’s College, eventually serving as its Rector (1971-1976) and Dean (1954-1960, 1980-1981). He served on the Historic Sites Advisory Board of Manitoba (1971-1976). In 1982, he was inducted into the Order of the Buffalo Hunt for “significant contribution to preserving Manitoba’s heritage in historic sites.” He died at Winnipeg on 12 May 1988.
