Memorable Manitobans: Edward Jarvis (?-c1800)Fur trader, interpreter. First employed by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1771, he became fluent in Cree and thus became a leader of mapping expeditions of the 1770s. Of a weak constitution, he was ill-suited to the field, but he advocated inland expansion. He retired in ill health in 1797. More information:
