Memorable Manitobans: Glen Edward Hirst (1941-2009)

Municipal official.

Born at Riverton on 30 May 1941, the sixth of ten children, the family moved to Lac du Bonnet in 1953 where he resided for the rest of his life. He was employed with the Agassiz (Sunrise) School Division as its Transportation and Maintenance Supervisor and retired with 30 years of service in 2001. He served for 25 years with the town council, 17 of those years as Mayor of Lac du Bonnet. He performed over 400 marriages as a Manitoba Marriage Commissioner. He died of cancer at Winnipeg on 13 March 2009.
