Memorable Manitobans: Walter Harold Hildebrandt (1951-2021)Historian. Born at Brooks, Alberta on 2 January 1951, son of Gerhard Hildebrandt and Ilse Goetze, the family moved to Saskatoon where he received an MA degree in History. There, he met his wife Sarah Carter and they moved to Winnipeg in 1979 where he worked as an historian with Parks Canada. They moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1992 and to Edmonton, Alberta in 2006. He was director of the University of Calgary Press and later Athabasca University Press. He wrote several books. He died at Vancouver, British Columbia on 11 October 2021.
