Memorable Manitobans: William Alexander “Bill” Hendry (?-2003)Union leader. Born to William and Mary Hendry, he served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War. He worked at Selkirk’s Manitoba Rolling Mills from 1942 until 1985 and was active in union politics. He served as as President of Local 5442, United Steelworkers of America, from 1964 to 1979. He spent his last years at his cottage in Dunnottar on the shore of Lake Winnipeg. He died at at Selkirk on 4 October 2003.
