Memorable Manitobans: Karalee Ann Grant (1986-2010)

Community activist.

Born at Winnipeg in 1986, daughter of Kim and Keith, she attended Beaverlodge Elementary School, Bruce Junior High School, and Westwood Collegiate. At 19, she was diagnosed with sinus cancer. She became a cancer advocate and an Information Assistant for the Canadian Cancer Society where she was involved in volunteer work, numerous campaign endorsements, media events, and speaking engagements. She was honoured with the Canadian Cancer Society National Medal of Courage (2010) which is “awarded to an individual who has exhibited outstanding, unusual courage in their own personal battle with cancer, while contributing significantly to help further the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society or cancer control in general.” She died at Winnipeg on 7 March 2010. She is commemorated by the Karalee Classic Golf Tourney.
