Memorable Manitobans: Elma Beall Gerwin (?-2002)Adult literacy specialist. Born at Ottawa, Ontario, daughter of Herbert and Mary Beall, she studied at Bishops University and the University of Toronto. She moved to Winnipeg in 1965 and, from 1990 to 2001, she was a coordinator with LiteracyWorks. She was known for her innovative work in the field of adult literacy and in 2001 she won a Canada Post Educator Award for literacy workers. She died at Winnipeg on 15 April 2002.
