Memorable Manitobans: Charlie Au Foo (1894-1980)
Restauranteur, community activist.
Born in China, he came to Winnipeg in 1918 where he was employed with Western Packers until 1944 when he became a partner in Chan’s Restaurant. He was active in numerous charities and benevolent associations. He was Honourary President of the Manitoba Chinese Benevolent Association. In 1973, he sold his business interests and moved to Vancouver, British Columbia. He died there on 25 May 1980.
