Memorable Manitobans: William Harry Down (1930-1981)

Butcher, municipal official.

The sixth child born to Ellen and John Leonard Douglas Down, on 11 February 1930, he was raised at Rounthwaite, Manitoba. He married Agnes Pringle and moved to Souris where he owned and operated a butcher shop. He served as Exalted Ruled of the local Elks faternity, was an Alderman on the Souris town council, and was active member of the St Pauls United Church at Souris. He died on 11 July 1981.
