Wilfred James Donaldson

Community activist.
Born at Fenelon Falls, Ontario on 2 April 1895, son of Joseph Donaldson (1866-1900) and Martha Ann Martin (1873-1925), during the First World War he served overseas with the 226 Battalion. He worked for over 45 years at the Manitoba Home for Boys at Portage la Prairie. During the Second World War, he was Regimental Sergeant Major with the Lake Superior Regiment. For many years, he instructed the No. 19 Portage Collegiate Cadet Corps and the No. 745 SAS Cadet Corps.
On 2 June 1920, he married Olive Mary Leaman (1902-1966) at Portage la Prairie. They had a son and three daughters. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and First Presbyterian Church. For his military service, he was inducted into the Order of the British Empire (1944).
He died at the Portage General Hospital on 19 October 1965 and was buried in the Portage Hillside Cemetery.
