Memorable Manitobans: John Gary “Jack” Clements (1952-2006)

Film producer.

Born at Esterhazy, Saskatchewan on 27 April 1952, son of Bill and Marie Clements, he was raised there and developed an interest in entertainment at an early age. He started off in high school musicals and toured with his rock band. Later he became a record producer in Winnipeg and pre-recorded sessions for CTV’s “Let’s Go.” After studying Film and Television at the University of California, he returned to Manitoba to be an Assistant Director to the mini-series “Daughters of Country.” He was also a part of the productions of IMAX’s “Heartland,” the Rocki Rolletti music video, “I’m Just Spinning my Wheels,” and the National Film Board’s “The Crown Prince.” He started John Aaron Productions with his business partner Kim Johnston. They produced the films “CowPunk,” “The Last Winter,” “For the Moment,” and “The Arrow.” In 1996, he married Lorraine Barlow. In 2005, he joined Buffalo Gal Pictures with his fellow producer Phyllis Laing. Throughout his life he received many awards for film in Canada and abroad. He died on 26 April 2006, one day short of his 54th birthday.
