Memorable Manitobans: Joseph Bere “Joe” Blostein (c1896-1981)

Businessman.

Born around 1896, he learned the tailoring trade during a six-year apprenticeship at a Russian naval base. He came to Transcona in 1914 and opened a hand-to-measure tailor shop and department store. He died at his Winnipeg home, 414 Bond Street, on 30 May 1981 and was buried in the Transcona Cemetery. He is commemorated by Blostein Bay in Winnipeg.
