Memorable Manitobans: Francis C. Beech (1880-1966)

Journalist, publisher.

Born at Battersea, London, England on 6 May 1880, he came to Canada in 1911 and joined the staff of the Glenboro Gazette. In April 1924, he took over management of the newspaper, recently renamed the Western Prairie Gazette and, five years later, he became its owner. He sold the business to Frank Presunka in 1949. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church (Glenboro) and was a Life Member of the Manitoba Weekly Newspaper Association. He died at Glenboro on 18 December 1966 and was buried in the Glenboro Cemetery.
