Memorable Manitobans: Robert Dundas Bathgate (1837-1905)

Merchant.

Born in Scotland on 10 January 1837, brother of William Bathgate, and came to Winnipeg in 1873. He operated awholesale business with Robert Gerrie. In 1882 he transferred to real estate, and later exported grain as well. His residence was designed in 1892 by Winnipeg architect Charles H. Wheeler.

Bathgate died in Winnipeg on 17 March 1905, at the age of 67 years. He is commemorated by Bathgate Bay in Winnipeg.
