Memorable Manitobans: Francis Ernest “Frank” Arkell (1864-1929)

Pharmacist.

Born at Guelph, Ontario on 17 August 1864, son of James Arkell, he graduated with honours from the Ontario College of Pharmacy, in 1883. After a period of time spent working in drug stores of Ontario, he came to Manitoba to 1896 and established a drug store at Carberry. In 1892, he married Adeline Hewitt, a daughter of Henry Hewitt, of Bright, Ontario. He died in Winnipeg on 2 May 1929.

Brother-in-law of James Wesley Hewitt.
