A two-storey residence at this site in the Armstrong's Point area of Winnipeg, constructed in 1901 for businessman W. Rockley Kaye (1865-1905), was converted into a private Catholic school for girls in 1950. An annex was attached to the building. When, in 1964, the school moved to a new larger building in Charleswood, the building became home to the Westgate Mennonite Collegiate.

Operated by an educational organization affiliated with liberal Mennonite congregations in and around Winnipeg, an 18,500-square-foot addition, including a gymnasium designed by architect Rudolf Paul “Rudy” Friesen, was constructed between 1977 and 1978. A major expansion of the facility in 1989, also designed by architect Friesen, involved the demolition of the original Kaye residence.
