This two-storey school on Rue Saint-Jean Baptiste in the St. Boniface area of Winnipeg opened in 1967 as a bilingual facility known as the Louis Riel Collegiate Institute (Institut Collegial Louis Riel). By 1982, lacking enrollment, it became the home of the Collège secondaire de Saint-Boniface, a French-language high school (grades 9-12) of the St. Boniface School Division. It was renamed Collège Louis-Riel. In 1994, it was affiliated with the newly-established Division scolaire franco-manitobaine.
Among the teachers of Louis Riel Collegiate were Diane Paulette Payment (1967-1973) and Agathe Comeault (?-1979).
