Historic Sites of Manitoba: Reliance Ink Warehouse (520 McGee Street, Winnipeg)

Formerly located on McGee Street in Winnipeg, this two-storey brick building, measuring 39 feet by 50 feet, was designed by local architect David Wynyard Bellhouse and built in 1911 by Walter Peacock at a cost of about $9,000 as a warehouse for the Reliance Ink Company. Originally a one-storey building, the second floor was added later.

The Reliance Ink Company continued to occupy the building into the early 1950s, and it was later occupied by the Richard Bait Manufacturing Company, a manufacturer of fishermen’s supplies. In October 1963, the property was expropriated by the Winnipeg School Division as a site for the new John M. King School. The building was demolished between July and August 1964.
