The first primary school at this site on Kenny Street in Winnipeg was known as the Chapel School. Built in 1945 by the construction firm of Couture and Toupin, it opened for classes in January 1946. Its space was used on Sundays as a chapel for Roman Catholic Mass. An annex was constructed in 1947, bringing its clasroom count to seven from the original three. In 1952, it began to be administered by the Norwood School District No. 2113 although use of the French language for instruction was restricted.

Growing student enrollment resulted in replaced of the original structure by a new school designed by the architectural firm of Zunic and Sobkowich built between 1955 and 1956. It became a French-language public school in 1964. It was purchased by te Norwood School Division in 1969.

With the formation of the Franco-Manitobans School Division No. 49 in 1994, this school became one of 20 schools to join it.
