Historic Sites of Manitoba: Melrose Garage and Service Station (118 Melrose Avenue West, Winnipeg)

This one-storey brick building on Melrose Avenue West in the Transcona area of Winnipeg, measuring 28 feet by 60 feet, was built in 1911 by proprietor Joesph “Joe” Maranda as a garage and service station. The building originally had a single service bay and a single gasoline pump that sold Red Indian brand gasoline from the McColl-Frontenac Oil Company.

At the time of a 2025 site visit, the building had been extensively renovated and was unrecognizable from its original appearance.
