Manitoba Photographers: Herbert James Metcalfe (1870-1943)

Born at Richmond, Yorkshire, England on 16 October 1870, he came to Winnipeg in 1906 where he worked as a photographer until his death. He and wife Ada Anne Metcalfe (1870-1956) had two children: Alan Herbert Metcalfe (1899-1971) and Marjorie Hall Metcalfe (1903-1997, wife of John Grannis Dafoe, daughter-in-law of John Wesley Dafoe). He was a member of St. Margaret's Anglican Church. He died at his Winnipeg home, 272 Aubrey Street, on 29 April 1943 and was buried in the Brookside Cemetery.
