He attended grades 1 to 12 at Graysville School. He began a long teaching career at the age of 18, at Holland School (1966-?), West Treherne School (?-?), Birtle, Altona, Morden Collegiate Institute (Principal, 1976-1979), and East Kildonan. He was Superintendent of the Seven Oaks School Division (?-2011) when he joined the University of Manitoba where he was Dean of the Faculty of Education (2001-2011). He retired in 2011.
