War Memorials in Manitoba, An Artistic Legacy

The report War Memorials in Manitoba, An Artistic Legacy was developed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the First World War. This review of Manitoba’s collection of war memorials allows readers and visitors to explore more than 200 sites, enriched by background information on historical precedents and information on artistic and aesthetic qualities.

The project was inaugurated by Mr. Patrick Morican who, in 1996, undertook the creation of a comprehensive inventory of Manitoba’s war memorials. That initiative has been enlarged through the auspices of the Portage la Prairie Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee and with the assistance of the province’s Historic Resources Branch, the Manitoba Historical Society, and the members of Heritage Manitoba.
