Commissioned by the White Horse Plain School Division, the St. Laurent Collegiate was built in 1961 to replace previous high school classroom capacity within the St. Laurent Municipal School District. Located on Lot 20-21 in St. Laurent in the Rural Municipality of St. Laurent, it was designed by Libling Michener and Associates. An expansion was added in 1964.
In 1970, a new elementary school was added directly west-adjacent, based upon designs of Gaboury Lussier Sigurdson Architects. The rectangular structure measured 150 feet by 100 feet and both collegiate and elementary schools connected via a corridor. The St. Laurent Elementary School first received students on 8 September 1970 and, with construction finished as the fall term progressed, it was officially opened on 20 December 1970. Both the Elementary and Collegiates each continued as semi-separate entities (for a time each with their own Vice-Principals) in the 1970s under the shared St. Laurent School banner though were later fully integrated.
