Historic Sites of Manitoba: Schnider Stable / Aetna Roofing Warehouse (272 Stella Avenue, Winnipeg)

Formerly located on Stella Avenue in Winnipeg, a 1½-storey cream brick and Tyndall Stone trimmed, Commercial Vernacular-style building, measuring 32 feet by 66 feet, was designed by local architect Max Zev Blankstein and built between late 1912 and early 1913 by day labour at a cost of about $4,000, for owner Leon Schnider. He was a coal and wood wholesaler who used it as a stable for up to 20 horses.

Later used as a warehouse for the Aetna Roofing Company, the building was demolished in conjunction with the Lord Selkirk Park housing development, and the site is now part of the David Livingstone School grounds.
