Historic Sites of Manitoba: Manitoba Liquor Control Commission Store No. 4 (117 Osborne Street, Winnipeg)

This one-storey red-brown brick building on Osborne Street in Winnipeg, measuring 32 feet by 90 feet, was built in 1939 by the construction firm of A. Akman and Son at a cost of about $7,500. Its owner was the Government Liquor Control Commission (later the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission) that operated it as a liquor store to regulate the sales and use of liquor throughout the province.

Subcontractors included D. Thompson (electrical), MacDonald Brothers Sheet Metal and Roofing Company (roofing and sheet metal), Walter Hanson Iverson (brickwork), and John Plaxton & Company Limited (plumbing and hot water heating).

At the time of a 2026 site visit, the building was slightly modified from its original appearance and was occupied by a restaurant.
