This brick and stone building on Bannatyne Avenue in Winnipeg was designed in 1899 for the McClary Manufacturing Company by local architect Samuel Frank Peters. Initially four storeys, an expansion to six storeys in 1903 was designed by John Hamilton Gordon Russell and built by the firm of Saul and Irish.
A one-storey annex on the west side, also designed by Russell, was built in 1904 by Hudson and Davidson. Finally, in 1909, two storeys were added to the annex in 1909. That work was designed by Hooper and Hooper and built by the Blow Brothers.
Some employees of the company who were killed during service in the First World War were commemorated at a 61st Battalion concert held at the Walker Theatre on 13-14 December 1915.
The building is a municipally-designated historic site.
