Historic Sites of Manitoba: Slater Insurance Building / Balmoral Memorial Garden (Balmoral, RM of Rockwood)

Constructed in the early twentieth century, the Slater Insurance Building was demolished sometime after October 2014 following over 100 years of operation in Balmoral in the Rural Municipality of Rockwood.

In spring 2019, a memorial garden was proposed by long-time resident Joan Main (1947-2023) and was constructed on the site in July and August, repurposing 800 of the building’s original bricks from the Balmoral Brick Company. The Balmoral Memorial Garden was opened officially during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on 13 August 2019 with over 100 people in attendance. It honours the pioneers and past residents of Balmoral.
