Memorable Manitobans: Percy H. A. Wykes (?-?)

Educator.

He arrived in Winnipeg by late 1932 or early 1933 and worked as a teacher and House Master of Stovel House (1933) at Ravenscourt School before departing in the summer of 1933, and is presumed to have established the Wykes prize for mathematics at the school, first awarded in 1934. Having returned to the United Kingdom and earned a MA degree from Oxford University, he rejoined the school in 1937, sailing aboard the SS Aurania from Southampton to Canada. He was House Master (1937-1939) and served as Acting Headmaster (1939-1942) during the military service of Headmaster Norman Andrew Thomson Young, followed by himself becoming Headmaster (1942-1949) of Ravenscourt School. In 1949, he departed Manitoba for Ridley College at St. Catharines, Ontario. Both earlier and later whereabouts are not yet known.
