Charles Herbert Swanson

Farmer, businesman.
Born at Neepawa on 23 December 1935, son of Oscar Herbert Swanson (?-1994) and Myrtle Laurena Mikkelson (?-1999), he was raised on the family farm near Brookdale. He farmed with his father and, after his marriage, he purchased land east of Brookdale where he produced grains, oilseeds, and cattle. In 1979, he joined the board of directors of Manitoba Pool Elevators and served as its Vice-President (1985-1990) and President (1990-1999) during a critical period of transition to Agricore.
In 1959, he married schoolteacher Kathleen Alberta Dennis (1936-2021) and they later had a daughter and a son. He played hockey and was active in 4H. In retirement he joined the Rotary Club and worked with NACTV (Neepawa Community Access Television).
He died at Winnipeg on 7 January 2024.
