MLA (1999-2003), MLA (2003-2007), MLA (2007-2011), MLA (2011-2016), Premier of Manitoba (2009-2016), MLA (2016-2018).
He served as a Winnipeg city councillor (1989-1992) before entering provincial politics, being elected in the 1999 general election and re-elected in 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2016. He served as Premier of Manitoba (2009-2016). He was not a candidate in the 2019 election.
In recognition of his community service, he received a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002), Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012), and Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (2022). He was inducted into the Order of Manitoba (2021).
