Memorable Manitobans: William Macdonald Pineo (1863-1941)

Salesman.

Born at Pugwash, Nova Scotia on 19 February 1863, son of Edward Pineo and Henrietta Christina Macdonald, he left school at the age of 16 and, in April 1882, arrived in Manitoba. He spent a year at Brandon then went to Virden and, from 1883 to 1904 was a travelling salesman for an agricultural implements company.

In 1887, he married Mary Ellen Sarvis (1866-1951) of Port Hope, Ontario. They had two sons: Clarence Macdonald Pineo (1888-?) and Harold M. Pineo (1895-?). He served as the Returning Officer for the Virden constituency in the 1927, 1932, and 1936 provincial general elections.

He died at Virden on 20 July 1941 and was buried in the Virden Cemetery.
