Memorable Manitobans: Joseph Peters (1888-1942)

Businessman.

Born on 28 August 1888, he came to Winnipeg in 1906 and, in 1926, established a soft drink bottling firm, the Arctic Drink Company, at the intersection of Selkirk Avenue and Sinclair Street. On 2 October 1907, he married Anastasia “Nettie” Czulanski (1891-1969) and they had five children: Frank Peters (1915-?), Jean “Jennie” Peters (1916-1959, wife of John Kizlyk), Bernice “Bertha” Peters (1918-1950, wife of Nicholas Musick), Victoria Peters (1921-?), and Edward Peters (c1930-?). The family lived at 856 Pritchard Avenue (c1931) and 860 Selkirk Avenue (c1950-1969). He was a member of St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church and St. John's Cantius Society. He died at Winnipeg on 18 January 1942 and was buried in the Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
