Peter Payne

Businessman.
Born at Eastbourne, Sussex, England on 7 August 1854, son of John and Hannah Payne, he came to Manitoba in 1880. He farmed in the Rural Municipality of Elton until 1889 then moved to Brandon where, among other business activities, he was President of the Empire Brewing Company.
In 1898, he married Ellen Beaubier (1862-1958, daughter of Thomas Jefferous Beaubier) and they had two daughters: Ellen E. Payne (1894-1941) and H. Mary Payne (1896-?, wife of Leonard Cuff). He served as President of the Brandon Turf Club and a director of the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba (President, 1907, 1909, 1915, 1917, 1924). He was a member of the Conservative party and Anglican church.
He died at his Brandon residence, 458 Twelfth Street, on 20 October 1934 and was buried in the Brandon Cemetery.
