Edward Rex Plewman Nesbitt

Businessman.
Born at Hollymount, County Mayo, Ireland in 1902, son of Canon A. J. Nesbitt and Mary Alice Plewman, he came to Canada in 1917 and farmed for a time with his brother at Lashburn, Saskatchewan. He soon left the farm to work at the Union Bank and later became a partner in the firm of Crabb and Company, the predecessor of Montrose Mortgage Corporation at Winnipeg. He was an interim director of the Bank of Western Canada proposed by James Elliott Coyne.
On 7 April 1933, he married Geraldine Margaret “Peggy” Barrett-Hamilton (1910-2003) at All Saints Anglican Church. They had two children: Michael F. B. Nesbitt and Clare Nesbitt. He was a Warden of St. George’s Anglican Church and a President (1944-1945) and Honorary Life Member of the Winnipeg Squash Racquet Club. He was a member of the St. Charles Country Club and Manitoba Club.
He died at Winnipeg on 10 March 1990.
