Jack Burnett Murta

Farmer, MP (1970-1972), MP (1973-1974), MP (1974-1979), MP (1979), MP (1980-1984), MP (1984-1988).

Born at Carman on 13 May 1943, son of John James Murta (1913-1990) and Jean Lavina Burnett (1911-1995), he was elected to the House of Commons at a 1970 federal by-election and was re-elected in 1972, 1974, 1979, 1980, and 1984. He served as Minister of State for Multiculturalism (1984-1985) and Minister of State for Tourism (1985-1986). He was not a candidate in the 1988 general election.
