Curler.
Born in St. Boniface on 11 April 1940, one of three children of Maxim “Max” Meleschuk (c1901-1980) and Ksenia “Katja” Zaylo (?-1999), he attended King George the Fifth School, Norwood Collegiate, and Tec Voc High School. He worked at Wardrop Engineering, the City of Selkirk, and Town of Beausejour, and contributed to the delivery of safe drinking water to Inuit communities of Cape Dorset and Frobisher Bay in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He moved to Selkirk in the mid-1970s and lived there until his death.
Active since youth in such sports as hockey, baseball, and curling, it was in the latter that he excelled, playing at the Heather Curling Club. By the mid-1960s, he had become one of the top curlers in the world. In 1972, he was skip of a team that won the Canadian Brier and went on to win the World Men's Championship. He continued curling into the early 2000s, receiving provincial titles in 1989, 1996, and 2002. In recognition of his prowess, he was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame (1985) and the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame (1991, 2011, 2022).
He died at Selkirk on 23 June 2026.
