Memorable Manitobans: Jack Meek (1912-1964)

Journalist.

Born at Vancouver, British Columbia in 1912, he joined the editorial staff of the Vancouver Sun in 1929 and later served as its financial and mining editor. He covered the building of the Alaska Highway and was the first journalist to accompany US troops. He left journalism in 1943 to become a public relations officer for Canadian Pacific Airlines. He left the position in 1946 to join the Winnipeg Tribune, serving as Provincial Editor, City Editor, Sports Editor, and Promotion Manager (1959-1964). He and wife Helga (?-?) had two daughters, ? Meek (wife of W. J. Robertson) and ? Meek (wife of Ken McGowan). He died at the Winnipeg General Hospital on 24 February 1964 and was buried in the St. James Anglican Cemetery. He lived at 480 Newton Avenue at the time of his death.
