Memorable Manitobans: Robert Wesley “Bob” McMullin (1921-1995)

Musician, composer, broadcaster.

Born at Lewiston, Utah on 29 April 1921, son of Wesley and Ruby McMullin, he moved to Calgary, Alberta to attend school. In 1942, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served until 1946, serving as conductor of the RCAF dance band “Modernaires” which played for the troops in England, France, Germany, Belgium and Holland. After his military discharge, he lived at Edmonton, Alberta and worked for the CBC. He was transferred to Winnipeg in 1955. He hosted The Bob McMullin Show until at least 1962. He arranged music for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and scored over 70 radio dramas. He later became involved in CBC Television and was the musical director for Rainbow Stage. He died in Saskatchewan on 3 January 1995.
