Memorable Manitobans: Kai Lorens Madsen (1941-2021)

Community activist.

Born at Copenhagen, Denmark on 19 September 1941, son of Borj Lorens Madsen and Klara Elisabeth Jenson, he came to Canada with his family in 1953 and settled in Alberta where he began working at Litton Industries in 1966. He moved to Calgary to work at National Trust for a brief time before moving to Winnipeg to accept a management position with McBee Systems in September 1970, where he worked until retirement in 1994. He began volunteering at the Christmas Cheer Board in 1969, later becoming a board member and serving as President (?-1996) and Executive Director from 1996 until retirement in August 2021. In recognition of his community service, he received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012). He died at his home in St. Francois Xavier on 6 October 2021.
