Roy Paul Johnson (1899-1963)

Journalist, historian.

Born at Hendrum, Minnesota on 1 May 1899, he was educated at Hendrum and Halstad. He worked for the Great Northern Railway at several places (1914-1917), as a station agent, clerk, and warehouseman. He then worked as a telegrapher for the Great Northern and Western Union in Minnesota and Iowa and became a telegrapher at the Sioux City Journal and Tribune in 1919. He joined the editorial staff of The Fargo Forum in 1928 and worked there for 35 years, specializing in the history of the Red River Valley, the State of Minnesota, and the frontier movements of population west of the Mississippi River. On 15 June 1921, he married Mary C. LeVitre (?-?) at Moorhead, Minnesota. They had no children. He died at Fargo, North Dakota on 20 February 1963 and was buried in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
