Memorable Manitobans: Jean-Louis Ducharme (1909-1970)

Building contractor.

Born in 1909, he worked as a general contractor as proprietor of Louis Ducharme and Associates until retirement in 1967.

In 1936, he married Mackalena “Lena” Andreychuk (1914-2009) and they had three children: Albert Louis Ducharme, Gerald “Gerry” Ducharme, and Jeanette Ducharme. The family lived at 191 Kingston Row (c1963). He served as a St. Vital alderman (1958-1962) and chaired the Health and Welfare and Public Works departments.

He died at his home in Hemet, California on 28 February 1970 and was buried in the St. Vital Cemetery. He is commemorated by the Ducharme Waterplay Park in Winnipeg.
