Memorable Manitobans: Reynolds Leonard “Reyn” Davis (1943-2006)

Journalist.

Born at Mossbank, Saskatchewan on 12 April 1943, he was raised on a farm and developed a love for sports. He became a sports journalist and wrote for the Moose Jaw Times Herald, Regina Leader Post, Chatham Daily News, and Winnipeg Free Press. He also wrote articles for Sports Illustrated and Hockey News. He was noteworthy for his coverage of the Winnipeg Jets in the WHA and NHL, and traveled covering them in Russia, Finland, and Sweden. For his many years of sports coverage, he was inducted to the Manitoba Sports Writers’ Hall of Fame (1993) and Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame (1995). His community involvement included coaching children’s baseball. His hobbies were golfing, curling and playing the position of catcher in the Old Timers Fastball League. He died at Winnipeg on 7 March 2006.
