Hotelier, travelling salesman.

Born in Scotland on 7 January 1867, he was a travelling salesman and proprietor of the Brunswick Hotel. Around 1908, he leased the Mariaggi Hotel and later renamed it the St. Andrew’s Hotel. He closed it in 1915 and later moved to Minnesota where he was an eye-drop salesman.

He died unmarried at Minneapolis, Minnesota on 30 June 1946 and was buried in the Acacia Park Cemetery at Mendota Heights, Minnesota. His will left his entire estate to a woman he had employed as a waitress in the Mariaggi and to whom he was allegedly engaged for a period of time. The will was contested by his siblings but Margaret Laxdal (c1878-1957) ultimately prevailed in court.
